SB2791, the URLTA Technical Corrections Bill, by Senator Stacy Campfield passed the Senate 29 to 4. The House passed the Senate version. The Bill was amended to continue to require the Landlord to provide tenants with the location of the security account but not prospective tenants. The Bill goes to the Governor for his signature.
SB2610 by Senator Charlotte Burks, (D) Monterey, and HB2683 by Representative Ryan Williams, (R) Cookeville, changes population to 75,000 from 68,000 in which counties would be under URLTA. This would exempt Greene and Putnam counties which grew into URLTA as a result of the 2010 census. The Bill passed the House. The Senate passed the Bill with an effective date of 7/1/13. The House failed to concur to the Senate Bill on 4/9/12. The Senate passed the House version exempting Greene and Putnam Counties. The Bill goes to the Governor for his signature.
HB2982 by Representative Vance Dennis, (R) Savannah, and S 2705 by Senator Brian Kelsey, (R) Memphis will limit the rate of interest on Judgments to 2% over the published prime rate of interest. The present rate is 10%. The House Calendar and Rules passed the Bill to the full House to be heard Monday. The Senate version of the Bill exempts General Sessions and Municipal Court Cases.
